Diana B. Martin 1964-2010 PITTSFIELD - Diana B. Martin, 45, of Dalton Ave., passed away suddenly Tuesday, August 31, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born October 6, 1964, in Pittsfield, the daughter of James E. Martin and Diana P. Forward. Diana was a graduate of Wahconah High School, received a liberal arts degree from Berkshire Community College, and graduated from Springfield Technical College. She enjoyed reading, hiking, and loved animals. Diana volunteered at the Berkshire Museum, and was proud of obtaining her scuba diver certification. She leaves her mother Diana P. Martin of Hinsdale, father James E. Martin of Vermont, two daughters Amanda J. Martin of Hinsdale and Alexandra K. Fassell of Ellisville, MO, grandchildren Gabriel P. Martin and Savannah B. Martin and a brother James P. Martin of Hinsdale. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Diana B. Martin will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Hinsdale Congregational Church with the Rev. Carolyn Peck officiating. There will be no calling hours. Barbara Hill Griffith 1925-2010 NORTH CLARENDON, VT. Barbara Hill Griffith, 85, of Sherry Lane, died Sunday at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Pittsfield, on August 4, 1925, the daughter of Burton C. and Mary Hamilton Hill, she was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School and graduated from the Chicago Institute of Radiology in 1945. She was employed for 25 years as medical technician for Dr. Herbert R. Glodt and later for years by Dr. Wasser till she retired in 1987. Barbara was an avid knitter, who knitted sweaters for soldiers during WWII and her children. Barbara was an active member of the reunion class looking forward to their 65th gathering and an active member the First Congregational Church of Dalton, singing with the choir and volunteering in the Green Gargoyle thrift shop. Barbara also sang with the Hilltop Chorus, and volunteered in the local veteran's office. Barbara also enjoyed her part-time position with the Berkshire Athenaeum. She, most of all, enjoyed spending many hours with her friends and family, who will miss greatly miss her. She leaves her children, Deborah Griffith May, and husband Thomas May, with whom she resided in N. Clarendon, Vt. for the past eight months, and her son, Jeffrey Hill Griffith, of Pittsfield. Barbara also leaves her grandsons, Zachary T. May of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Jason Fitzgerald of Montageau, Mass. She is also survived by her brother, Richard H. Hill of Pittsfield, and his wife, Helen, nephews Matthew and Christopher Hill, Chris's wife Alicia and their new baby, Barbara's grandniece, Ella Rose Hill, all of Pittsfield. Barbara is predeceased by her parents and brother, Hamilton H. Hill having passed in 1992 and her long time companion, Irving Perlman, passing in 1987. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Mrs. Barbara Hill Griffith will be held Thursday, September 9th at 1pm at the First Congregational Church of Dalton with the Rev. William Imes officiating. There will be a reception immediately to follow in the church meeting hall. There will be no calling hours. Anne Elizabeth Hill 1951-2010 NORTH ADAMS- Anne Elizabeth Hill, 59, of North Adams, passed away suddenly Friday from injuries sustained in car accident. Born July 16, 1951 in Cambridge, NY the daughter of William T. and Katharine Lahr Hill, Anne was 1969 graduate of Pittsfield High School, she received BA in Legal Anthropology from UMASS Amherst in 1975 and a MA in Human Resources from Antioch University New England Graduate School in April 2000. Anne was employed by the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in the human resources dept for the past 16 years, where she directed the volunteer program, and as a ski instructor at Jiminy Peak. Anne loved being a certified professional ski instructor at Jiminy Peak; she has been teaching people the art of skiing since she was 16 years old. This past winter she started teaching her grandson Savion how to ski. She loved reading, walking, and going to the beach and spending time with her family at their lake property on Pontoosuc Lake. She loved spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as "Nana". Anne was the consummate people's person, for the past 20 years she made the trip to the Celtic Highlander Games in Loon Mountain, New Hampshire. Anne is survived by her daughter, Alexandra Hill of Pittsfield, grandsons, Savion Price and Levi Bradley, four sisters, Kathryn H. Wade of Amarillo, Texas, Barbara J. Hill of Lake Oswego, Ore., Patricia Hill Zeigler of Amesbury, Mass., Susan McMahon of Scituate, Mass., two nieces, four nephews, and her uncle Albert Lahr of Geneva, N.Y. Miriam Estelle (Alburn) Kimball died on September 5, 2010, at BMC in Pittsfield.  She was born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 10, 1915, to Wilfred and Miriam (Russell) Alburn.  Miriam grew up near Cleveland, Ohio.  She graduated from Vassar College in 1937.
A journalist, Miriam worked for the Toledo, Ohio Newsbeat and the Detroit News. During WWII Miriam served in the Women's Reserve of the US Coast Guard (SPARS) for 3 years. Miriam joined the staff of the Minneapolis Tribune after the war, working as a reporter and editorial writer for 25 years. She married Robert Kimball in February, 1972; he died in 1988.
Miriam served as a Richmond Selectman and a member of the Richmond Planning Board.  She also was on the boards of the Community Health Association of Richmond and West Stockbridge and the Richmond Land Trust. Miriam was awarded the Charles and Mary Kusik Citizenship Award in 1998. Miriam helped found the Richmond Record, serving as the Editor from 2002 until her death.
Miriam is survived by 2 nieces, Libby (Bruce) James and Kathy (Greg) Widin and by 3 stepchildren, Rikki, John and George Kimball.
A memorial service will be held later.


PITTSFIELD- Darleen R. Shaver, 63, of 29 Yarmouth Street passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday AM. Born in Pittsfield MA on March 26 1947, she was the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Pularo Shaver. Darleen attended local schools graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1965 where she was a Champion Skier for the ski team and also a ski instructor for many years at Jiminy Peak. Attended the school of Practical Art in Boston, MA for four years. She had worked at Berkshire Medical Center and also for Hillcrest Educational Centers as a supervisor. She attended St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Pittsfield and she had many pets and was a great lover toward animals and was a professional Pet Groomer. Survivors include Debbie Shaver Bates and her husband Dennis R. Bates of Pittsfield, MA, Brother Robert R. Shaver of Pittsfield, MA, Nieces Darleen Tarjillo, Lindsey Fuhrmann, Nephews David Izzo, Jeffrey Fuhrmann, Great Nieces Janay Powell and Isabella Tarjillo, Great Nephews Tavian Izzo, David Izzo III and extended family Randy, Amanda, Erin Bates, Jolene, Tara, Lexus, Dakota and Diamond.
FUNERAL NOTICE- Memorial service will be held Sunday September 12, 2010 at the  WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME 220 EAST STREET PITTSFIELD MA  at 1 PM, with the Rev. Hannah Anderson, officiating. Calling hours will be from 11AM till the time of the service at 1PM. Following cremation Burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later date. Annette Twiggs 1963-2010
 PITTSFIELD- Annette Twiggs, 46, of North Street, passed away peacefully Monday night following a courageous battle with cancer, with her family at her bedside. Born October 12, 1963 in Pittsfield, the daughter of Raymond Rowe and Joan Ann Wilcox Thurston, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1981. Annette was employed for several years at the former Service Merchandise, as certified nurse's aide at local nursing homes and most recently as the manager for Shamrock Properties Inc. She loved nature walking, listening to the birds and the beauty of life, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and helping out the elderly. She was a member of the Reigning Love Church. David married the love of his life Annette on October 12, 2007, and had a wonderful life together. Survivors include her mother, Joan Ann Thurston and her husband, Norman, of Cheshire, her father, Raymond Rowe, and his companion, Deborah Lhote of Pittsfield; son, Tyrone Rowe and his fiancée, Amanda Caravello, of Pittsfield; two brothers, Michael Rowe and his wife, Judy, of Pittsfield, William Rowe of Texas, a stepsister, Danielle Calebaugh, and her husband, Paul, of Arizona, two stepbrothers, Mark Montemarano and Marsha of Tennessee, and Rob Thurston and his wife, Diana, of Cheshire, grandson, Lydel Rowe and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Friday at 1pm at the Reigning Love Church. Burial will be private in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held the day of the service at church from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Due to the length of her illness, donations in her memory may be made to her husband David Twiggs to help offset final expense. Richard A. Laraway Sr "Duke" 1933-2010
PITTSFIELD- Richard A. "Duke" Laraway Sr., 77, of Linden Street, passed away, Monday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born May 6, 1933 in Pittsfield, the son of Wilfred and Rose Dicranian Laraway, he was a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Duke served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was employed as a millwright by Kimberly Clark Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Duke's passion in life was his family; he enjoyed being with his friends at the Ralph Froio Senior Center where he was president of the Golden Seniors Bingo and helping decorate for Christmas. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is predeceased by his loving wife Barbara, his son, Jeff Laraway and brother Samuel Dicranian. Duke is survived by nine children, Richard Laraway Jr. of Rochester, N.Y., Mark Laraway of Toledo, Ohio, Rosemary Laraway Larkin Pittsfield, Cheryl Laraway of Ormond Beach, Fla., Michael Parizo of Germany, Terrence Parizo of Pelmetto, Fla., Robyn Soules of Sarasota, Fla., Kelli Piacquadio of Lee, and Michele Shove of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE Graveside services with military honors for Mr. Richard A. "Duke" Laraway Sr., will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Pittsfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Russell H. Chapman 1926-2010
 RICHMOND-Russell H. Chapman 84, of State Road passed away Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center, with a niece at his bedside, following a brief illness. Born January 31, 1926 in Pittsfield the son of Mortimer H. and Ruth L. Salmon Chapman, he graduated from Pittsfield High School. Russell served in the US Army during the Korean War. For many years he worked on the family farm in Richmond, he was also the head groundskeeper for the Kingman Farm in Richmond. He attended the Richmond Congregational Church. Russell enjoyed listening to classic country music, andrepairing old equipment and automobiles. He is survived by his sister Ethel Hanson of Richmond, brother Roger S. Chapman of Northfield, Mass., and numerous nieces and nephews. Russell is predeceased by his sister; Helen Chapman and brothers; Clifford Chapman, Malcolm Chapman, Ernest Chapman and William Chapman. Patricia Anne Stephenson 1924-2010
 DALTON- Patricia Anne Stephenson, 86, of High Street Dalton passed away at her home on Sunday. Patricia was born on January 26, 1924 in Blackington, North Adams, to Allan and Agnes M. Benoit Bates. She attended the former Archer School in North Adams and graduating from Drury High School in 1942. She then went on to North Adams State College where she earned a degree in elementary education graduating in 1947. She then married Peter W. Stephenson on December 29, 1947, they celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary on December 29, 1997, and they were married for 54 years, until Peter's death on July 13, 2001. Patricia was a teacher at West Stockbridge School from 1947-1949 and a substitute teacher in the Central Berkshire School District for many years. She was a member of the Wahconah Country Club for many years, and a member of the Dalton Congregational Church, she was a proof reader for the Dalton News Record, A member of Dalton Mothers Club for over 50 years, a member of Dalton Bicentennial Committee, and Berkshire County Extension Service. Patricia loved birds, flowers, riding her bike, walking, crosswords, and Car Trips. She leaves her sister Eileen Brennan of Cambridge, N.Y. her three sons, Robert and his wife, Cynthia of Milford, Conn., Michael and his wife, Barbara of Cape Coral, Fla., David and his wife, Deborah of Groveland, Mass., and her daughter Susan Stephenson of Dalton, Mass. Her six grandchildren Sarah, Gordon, Lauren, Nicholas, Benjamin and Abigail also many nieces and nephews. Clarence Allan Bode
PITTSFIELD- Clarence Allan Bode, 85, of Joan Dr., passed away Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center, following a long illness.Born in Chesterville, Ohio, the son of Clarence E. and Marion Seyler Bode, he was a 1943 graduate of Marion High School in Chesterville, OH and a 1951 graduate of Ohio University in Athens, OH with a degree in electrical engineering. He served in the Navy for a brief time. Clarence was a field representative of General Electric for 36 years, retiring on March 1, 1988. He was active in the GE Pensioners Club, IEEE, the first United Methodist Church, and was a gate attendant at Tanglewood for 33 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pittsfield. Clarence leaves his wife, the former Ernestine Eudy of China Grove, NC whom he married November 10, 1962 in Arlington Methodist Church, Arlington, Va. He is survived by two brothers; Frederick William Bode and his wife Janet of Green Valley, Ariz., John N. Bode and his wife Bernice of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, a sister Elinor Miles of Hilton, N.Y., and a brother-in-law Bruce A. Eudy and his wife Mary of Charlotte, N.C. and a niece and five nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Mr. Clarence Allan Bode will be held Saturday, September 25, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Pittsfield with the Rev. Dr. Judith Kohatsu officiating. Inurnment will take place in the church columbarium. Florence L. White
ACTON Florence L. White (Hutchinson), also known as "Sonny White," formerly of Pittsfield, died September 23rd, 2010 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Peter White and loving mother of five children: the late Peter T. White, Danbury, Conn., Major John F. White, Sacramento, Calif., Linda G. Oas, Columbia Station, Ohio, Jane W. Sullivan, Ayer, Mass., and Janet W. Sheldon, Pepperell, Mass. Florence was the daughter of the late Leroy and Gertrude Hutchinson both of Pittsfield, where she lived until her early 80s. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren and one sister, Blanche Emerson, of Dalton. She was always seen with a spool of thread and a crochet needle in hand and will be remembered for her elaborate crocheted dollies, table cloths and bed spreads. Her handiwork wasn't limited to crocheting. She was also an amazing seamstress and known to have made a number of prom dresses for her daughters and patched the knees of the pants of her many grandchildren. Florence welcomed all to her home and was known for her home cooked meals. She could be firey and feisty, but always had a huge heart. She will be greatly missed. RICHMOND -- Marylyn M. Ratcliff of March Hare Road died at her home on September 28, 2010.
 Born in Salem, Massachusetts, January 8, 1928,  she was the daughter of Alfred and Marion (Spencer) Poulter. A graduate of Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, she worked at MGH and as a visiting nurse with the Community Health Association of Richmond and West Stockbridge.
  A resident of Richmond for 55 years, she was involved in many civic organizations,  including the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Richmond Free Public Library.   Her thoughtful nature and willingness to listen endeared her to her many friends. She cherished her children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed reading, gardening and birdwatching.  She had a gift for meeting and connecting with people.
Married for 42 years she was predeceased by her husband, William N. Ratcliff.
 She is survived by her children, Dawn Stopyra (Ted) of Salem MA, Desna Ratcliff of Madison IN, Robin Ratcliff (Michael Staub) of Belmont MA, Will Ratcliff (Ann) of Southwest Harbor ME; and her grandchildren, Elissa and Jordan Stopyra, Will and Peter Staub, and Connor and Quinn Ratcliff. Marylyn was predeceased by her brothers Hamilton Poulter and Alfred Poulter Jr.
 FUNERAL NOTICE- Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at the Richmond Congregational Church on Saturday, October 2 at 1 p.m.
