Alfred S. Anderson 1914-2010 PITTSFIELD Alfred S. Anderson, 96, born March 24, 1914, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010, at Providence Care Center where he had been a resident since January 2007. Mr. Anderson is survived by his son Allyn R. Anderson of Hutto, Texas, daughters Anne McClain of Blue Ridge, Texas, Heather Dugener of Tallahasse, Fla., Sydney E. Anderson of Cheshire, and Bonnie L. Anderson of Becket, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a sister Catherine Lasher of North Adams. Alfred was predeceased by a sister Janet L. Beaman and a brother James F. Anderson. Per his wishes there will be no services or calling hours. Gerhard H. Kaufmann 1923-2010 PITTSFIELD Gerhard H. Kaufmann, 87, of Weston Street passed away at home following a long illness. Born February 23, 1923, in Vienna, Austria, the son of Phillipp J. and Ottilie G. Jemelka Kaufmann, he attended various public schools in the United States and Austria, graduated from the Technological Museum of Trade in Vienna, Austria in 1944, and received a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950 from the Vienna University of Technology in Vienna, Austria. Gerhard was employed by the US Occupation forces in Vienna as in interpreter from 1950-1954, from 1954 until 1957 he worked Research-Cottrell in Bound Brook, NJ as a field engineer, and as a development engineer for GE Ordnance Manufacturing here in Pittsfield from 1957 until his retirement in 1986. Gerhard was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic engineers. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, doing video photography, and his loving cats. He is predeceased by his wife Sylvia M. Godden whom he married December 23, 1954 she died May 7, 2007. He is survived by his daughter Linda Kaufmann of Pittsfield and a sister Ingrid M. Kaufmann of New York, N.Y. Evelyn M. Cripps 1926-2010 DALTON Evelyn M. Cripps, 84, passed away Monday at Berkshire Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Pittsfield on April 17, 1926 the daughter of Francis and Adele LaMountain Mickle, she was a 1946 graduate of St. Josephs High School. Evelyn was employed for over 20 years a General Electric as a wire wrap inspector in the ordnance division until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dalton. Evelyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing bingo, going to Hampton Beach but her greatest love was going camping. She leaves her husband Donald L. Cripps Sr. who she married April 10, 1948; they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this past April. Evelyn leaves her children Donald L. Cripps Jr. and his wife Marie of Dalton, Kathleen A. Warman of Pittsfield, Timothy E. Cripps of Dalton, grandchildren Christopher J. Cripps of Pittsfield, Michael E. Cripps and his wife Sue of Pawtucket, R.I., Matthew L. Cripps and his wife Amy of Pittsfield, Capt. Scott W. Warman and his wife Lori of Beaufort, S.C., Justin D. Cripps of Plano, Texas, nine great grandchildren, a sister Penny Burnick of Pittsfield, and daughter in law Tina D. Cripps. She was predeceased by a son James M. Cripps, and two brothers Robert Mickle and Francis Mickle. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Cripps will be held Thursday, October 14, at 11 a.m at the BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Irene M. Jones officiating. Edwin F. Williams 1929-2010 LANESBORO Edwin F. Williams, 81, of 45 Summer Street Lanesboro passed away Sunday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Edwin was born July 23, 1929 in Lake Placid, Fla. He was the son of Walter and Mildred Williams, he attended schools in Florida where he graduated from and then went to the Berkshire Business College for two years. He went to work for General Electric Company in Pittsfield and then went on to work for Granger Contracting where he was a Foreman and time keeper for many years. He was a member of the Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Pittsfield. He was a resident of Lanesboro for 50 years. He married the former Polly Anne Potter on August 18, 1950, who passed on June 30, 2004. He leaves three sons, Edwin F. Williams Jr. of Freemont, N.H., John F. Williams of Pittsfield, and Ronald Williams of Lanesboro; two daughters, Bonnie Hall of Crestview, Fla., and Deborah Miller of N. Richard Hills, Texas, also 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons, Mark and Donald Williams. Elizabeth F. Novak 1924 - 2010 PITTSFIELD Elizabeth F. Novak, 86, passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Commons on the late evening of Oct. 25, 2010. Born on Feb. 8, 1924, in Port Jervis, N.Y., daughter of Willard and Nettie French, Elizabeth attended schools in Matamoras, Pa., along With Mary Washington College in Virginia. She later relocated to Binghamton, N.Y., accepting a position as clinical technician at Kilmer Laboratory. It was there she met LT William Novak who had just returned from combat duty with the U.S. Air Force in England. They were married on March 18, 1945. Elizabeth and William later resided in San Antonio, Texas; Piqua, Ohio, Ithaca, N.Y., Johnson City, N.Y., and finally moving to Pittsfield. Her early years in Pittsfield were spent traveling and exploring much of the East Coast from Bar Harbor, Maine, to Key West, Fla. Elizabeth greatly enjoyed later years trout fishing in many of the streams and rivers within Berkshire County. She also took great pride and enjoyment in tending many of her flower gardens during the summer months. Elizabeth was the mother to three sons and one daughter, James of Lake Worth, Fla., and Montezuma, Ga., William and Barbara of Pittsfield, John of Pittsfield, and Nancy and William Rushton of San Jose, Calif., five granddaughters and one grandson. She was predeceased by a brother, Willard, of Arnold Md., and a sister, Florence Dilger of Matamoras Pa. Harold W. Tilton 1925-2010 WINDSOR- Harold W. Tilton, 84 formerly of Windsor passed away October 28, 2010, in Northbridge, MA at the home of his son in law Ralph W. Lloyd III, with whom he resided. Born in Savoy, MA on November 25, 1925 the son of Clinton E. and Bessie A. Brown Tilton, he was a graduate of Smith Vocational High School, Harold served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Harold worked in construction, as a truck driver, and retired as the highway superintendent for the Town of Windsor. Harold served for many years as the Windsor Police Chief and on the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. He was predeceased by his wife the former A. Louise Catherman whom he married February 15, 1947 she died May 13, 1999. He leaves his step son Guy Kerstetter and his wife Nancy of Windsor, son in law Ralph W. Lloyd III of Northbridge, MA, granddaughters Kimberly Murray of Whitinsville, MA, Heather Walton of E. Douglas, MA, two step grandsons Guy Jay Kerstetter of Bethlehem, NH, Dale A. Kerstetter of Corinna, MA, five step great grandchildren Jasmine, Nicole, Kelsey, Devon, and Brittany, three great grandchildren Juliette, Nathan and Grace.
