Norma A. Lyon
1922-2010
LENOX- Lyon, Norma (Airoldi), 86, of Lenox, formerly of Lanesborough and Pittsfield, died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Providence Care Center of Lenox. She was the wife of Maurice N. Lyon; they married May 4, 1946. She was a life-long resident of Berkshire County. Born in Lee on June 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John Airoldi and Secondina (Montagna) Airoldi Viani. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1942. She worked in G.E. Payroll and as a teacher’s aide at Mt. Greylock Regional High School, retiring in 1983. She was a member of South Congregational Church in Pittsfield and was active, most recently, in the May Mattoon Society, and in preparing meals for the homeless. She was also a volunteer at Hancock Shaker Villager. Her volunteer activities in Lanesborough ranged from the PTA to the Girl Scouts to the Council on Aging. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing bridge, traveling and taking care of her grandchildren. She made the best pies ever! Besides her husband of 64 years, she was also beloved by her two daughters, Beverly Lyon Clark and her husband Roger Clark of Providence, RI, and Nancy Lyon and her husband Andrew Vadnais, of South Kent, CT; three grandchildren Tae, Wendy, Adam and his wife Kristin; a brother Joseph Viani and his wife Linda of Colorado; a brother-in-law Harvey Brazeau of North Adams, whose wife was the late Alma Airoldi Brazeau; and seven nieces and nephews and their families.
FUNERAL NOTICE- The funeral for Norma Lyon will be conducted Monday, November 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the South Congregational Church South Street Pittsfield, MA with the Rev. Joel F. Huntington, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Congregational Church, care of the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield MA 01201 who is in charge of arrangements.  Thoughts and wishes may be emailed to

Virginia P. Perrone
1912-2010
DALTON- Virginia Philipina Perrone, 98, of Dalton passed away Sunday November 7, 2010 at  Craneville Place. Virginia was born January 12, 1912 in Pittsfield, MA the daughter of the late Giacomo and Albina  Pia. 
She attended local schools graduating from Pittsfield High School. She worked at General Electric for five years during the 1930’s. Following her marriage she was a loving homemaker and great dedicated role model for family and friends.
Virginia was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church and a former longtime member of Mt.Carmel Church. She volunteered as a fundraiser for a number of charities.
She loved singing and listening to music, and also enjoyed sewing and making clothing.    Virginia had a” green thumb” especially for growing roses and vegetables. Preparing nutritious meals for family and friends was always important to her. Playing bridge and gambling were the most fun.
She married Joseph E. Perrone on August 25, 1934, who passed away on May 3, 2003.
Virginia leaves her sons Dennis J. Perrone , Richard A. Perrone and his partner Carolyn Swegel of Pittsfield, MA,  a granddaughter Kimberly  and husband Rob Visconti of North Reading, MA.  She also leaves five great grandchildren, Ryan, Devin, Kyle and Emily Visconti of North Reading, and Ashley Perrone and her partner Jed Ledoux of Pittsfield and great great grandson Scott Ledoux
She was predeceased by a sister Josephine, brother Giacomo,  and grandson Scott

FUENRAL NOTICE- Liturgy of Christian Burial for Virginia Perrone will be Thursday November 11th at 10AM at the St. Agnes Church in Dalton with the Rev. Christopher Malatesta Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be before church services  from 9 AM to 9:50AM at the BARTLETT WELLINGTON 525 MAIN STREET DALTON MA. The family would graciously like to thank the staff and caregivers at Craneville Place and Hospice for providing the warm home and loving care to Virginia in her final years. Donations in her memory may be made to Craneville Place activities fund.


Thomas L. Sherer II
1924-2010
Richmond- Thomas Lincoln Sherer II, 86, of Rochester, NY, died November 7, 2010, at Unity Hospital, Greece, NY.  Tom was born in Allentown, PA, on September 2, 1924.  Mr. Sherer entered World War II after graduation from Allentown High School in 1942, serving in the Burma-China-Indian Theater until the end of hostilities.  Tom served as a mechanic performing maintenance on antiaircraft batteries and military vehicles.  He was extremely proud of his war service.  Upon his return from the war, he attended and was graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and received master’s degree in chemistry from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1950.  Tom was married to Miss Francess Weida the same year.  Tom began employment with the General Electric Company (GE) in Pittsfield, MA, in 1951, where he spent his entire career, retiring in 1987.  He rose to the position of Senior Wire Magnet Engineer and earned a number of patents that are still in force.  Tom and Francess lived in Richmond, MA, for 45 years where they raised five children.  Tom was extremely athletic and spent many hours cross-country skiing, skating, bicycling and swimming with his children.  Tom and Francess were avid gardeners.  You would often find them during the summer months on their knees, he weeding the vegetables and she weeding the flowers. They also had a love of animals, the family having numerous pets.  They were members of First Church of Christ Congregational in Pittsfield for 35 years and were very active in the church. He was a deacon, sang in the choir, and for years performed in special oratorio performances.  They were also active in a local theater group for a number of years.  Tom sang with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and the Berkshire Choral Society, and was also a volunteer usher at the Tanglewood Music Center.  He served as Moderator for the Annual Richmond Town Meeting for a number of years.  After his retirement from GE, he served on the Richmond Board of Health before relocating to Rochester in 1999, not long after Francess’ death in 1998.  Tom spent the past eight years as a resident of the Rochester Presbyterian Home.  Tom is survived by his five children, Abigail (Randy) Mazzeo of Martinsburg, WV; John (Deanna Trefry) Sherer of Coudersport, PA; Peter (Sue) Sherer of Rochester, NY; James (Doris) Sherer of Roseville, CA; and Rebecca (Linda Scott) Sherer of Northampton, MA.  Tom is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and by his sister Elizabeth “Betz” Freas, who still lives in the Allentown area. A memorial service will be held in Pittsfield, MA on Saturday, November 20, 11:00 AM at First Church of Christ Congregational, 27 East Street, with a reception following.  Funeral arrangements are being coordinated with New Comer Funeral Home on 2636 Ridgeway Avenue in Rochester, NY and by Wellington Funeral Services on 220 East Street in Pittsfield, MA.  Burial services will be on November 20 attended by immediate family in Richmond at the Center Cemetery.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Rochester Presbyterian Home, 256 Thurston Road, Rochester, NY  14619 and to Unity Hospital at Parkridge, 1555 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY  14626.
