PITTSFIELD- William F. Carty Jr., 81 of 53 Pollock Ave passed away December 14, 2009 at Berkshire Medical Center. Born May 24, 1928, was the son of William Sr. and Elizabeth Coyne Carty. He attended local schools graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1946; He then attended Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey completing his Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1950. He went on to obtain his teaching credentials from North Adams State Teacher’s College in 1955. FUNERAL NOTICE- Liturgy Christian Burial will be held Monday December 21st at 11AM at the Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Father James Joyce officiating. PITTSFIELD- Linda Carol Henderson, 66, died December 20, 2009 at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pittsfield on February 19, 1943, daughter of Gerald and Alice Ferdyn Aldam, she attended Pittsfield High School. Linda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother; she loved to sew, making clothes for her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crafts, enjoyed bowling and camping. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Linda leaves her husband Walter whom she married August 25, 1962, three sons James L. and his wife Kym, Kevin J. and his wife Sarah, of Pittsfield, and Jeffrey M. and his wife Marsha of Stephentown, NY, her sister in law and brother in law Judith and Kenneth Feltman of Clifton, NJ. Her grandchildren Hunter, Harley, Lindsay, Lexi, Cody, Liam, Bella, Corina, and Niall. Survivors include uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and two brothers Kevin G. and Stephen F. Aldam. Many thanks to her Doctors and staff who took her through her many challenges in the past 3 years, to the many dedicated staff who cared for her at Berkshire Medical Center during each of her visits, and to the Berkshire Visiting Nurses, especially Paula and Bridget, and finally to HospiceCare in the Berkshires who helped her during her final days. FUNERAL NOTICE- A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 7pm at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Peter Gregory officiating. DALTON- Marion S. Houghtaling, 82, of 563 Main St. died at home on Friday. Born March 25, 1927, the daughter of Ashley and Marion Mason Fitzroy, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. She is predeceased by her husband Francis R. Houghtaling who died November 15, 1982. She leaves her son Gary F. Houghtaling and his wife Kathy of Dalton, daughter Terry L. Thomson of Dalton, son Kris R. Houghtaling and his wife Jean of Escondido, CA, grandchildren Joel D. Thomson, Stacia M. McBrierty and her husband Eric, Aaron M. Thomson, Ian Houghtaling, Keith Houghtaling, Ashley Houghtaling, Kaitlyn Houghtaling, and Rachel Houghtaling, and her great grandchildren Anastasia Green and Makenna McBrierty. Pittsfield – Betty Fuselier, 86, formerly of 2 Partridge Road, died Christmas Day at the Springside of Pittsfield Nursing Home. Born Betty Lou Scott on October 13, 1923, in Tylertown, MS. She was daughter to Ernest J. Scott and Besse Simmons. She was married to Marius “Gunner” Fuselier, whom she married Oct. 27, 1945, until his death in 1988. She attended Blue Mountain College two years, and then graduated with honors from Mississippi College. After marrying “Gunner, she became a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Betty’s family was her greatest joy. She was affectionately called “BiBi” by her grandchildren. She was an active and staunch supporter of the community theater group, the Town Players of Pittsfield. She was a lifetime member, and among her many roles she served as Secretary, and as President. She also won many awards for her fine acting. She was in such plays as “Bus Stop”(1958), “The Glass Menagerie” (1963), “Silent Night, Lonely Night”(1972), among others. She was an avid traveler. Through the years she traveled with her husband, and daughters, to places like Turkey, Spain, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Amsterdam, Austria, Portugal, Monaco, France, Germany, Luxembourg, England, Scotland, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Borneo and Bali. Betty leaves two sons, Christopher S. Fuselier of Farmington, CT, and Richard M. Fuselier of West Lake Village, CA; two daughters, Lisa B. Fuselier of Littleton, CO, and Mrs. Mari F. Ernst of Highlands Ranch, CO; and six grandchildren: Erin, Kevin and Matthew Fuselier; and Michael, Benjamin and Marli Ernst. FUNERAL NOTICE- Calling hours will be Monday from 6-7 pm at the Wellington Funeral Home followed by a brief service. Burial will be attended by Family on Tuesday at the Pittsfield Cemetery. | PITTSFIELD - Andrew J. Blau, 73, former president of England Brothers and the fourth generation of the England family to be involved with the department store passed away at his home at 90 Dawes Avenue on Thursday, December 31, 2009.
Mr. Blau was born in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Alan Blau and Rose England Blau. The family moved to Pittsfield when Andrew was three and his father began working in the family store. He attended Dartmouth College for two years before serving in the US Army for three years, two in France. Mr. Blau received his retail training as an assistant buyer and then buyer for Bloomingdales Department Store in New York City before returning to the family business in 1963. He and his uncle Simon England bought the Daniel England family's shares of the business to become sole owners of England's in the 1970s. Mr. Blau remained president of the corporation until its closing in 1989. A lifelong member of the Country Club of Pittsfield, Mr. Blau was a past president of the organization and had just completed a term as secretary of the board. He was a past member of the board of the Boys and Girls Club. Mr. Blau served as campaign treasurer for District Attorney David Capeless. Very much involved in the world of golf, Mr. Blau served for a number of years on the charity golf committees for Berkshire Medical Center and the American Red Cross. He became involved with the Massachusetts Golf Association and has served as a rules official for the MGA and the New England Golf Association for a number of years, working at golf tournaments throughout New England. Mr. Blau is survived by his wife, the former Kelly Hines whom he married June 24, 1960 in Carmel, California, his daughter Stephanie Buonopane of Long Beach, CA, two sons, Eric Blau of Miami, FL, and Christopher Blau with his wife Catherine of Pittsfield. He has two granddaughters, Samantha and Allison Blau of Pittsfield and a brother, Peter E. Blau and his partner Beverly Wolov of Washington D.C.. FUNERAL NOTICE - Visiting hours with the family will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Pittsfield Country Club, South Street, Pittsfield from 4-6 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
